7 Years of A Broken Heart Pt.6I entered the small apartment that I had been living in for the past five years. In my heart, I knew that I should move out soon: the environment wasn't the best for Sam. But I had grown attached to the two bedroom apartment and it's strangely cozy charm.   
I walked into the kitchen and set my keys and purse down on the counter. I then turned to the pile of bills that lay waiting for me on the counter. I sifted through them, listening to my daughter's movements through the rooms in the apartment. I peeked into the living room, where she sat. She was playing with her dolls, giggling happily all the while.

Black clouds came billowing in and lightning danced across the sky. I sat, staring out my window, my heart beating at a million miles an hour. After your collapse, a rushed ride to the hospital in an ambulance and immediate admittance to the ICU, I guess that's to be expected. Your mom called, told me not to worry and that she'd call when she knew something. One would suppose that after hours upon hours of waiting, somebody would have some sort of information by now. I couldn't stand not being next to you, holding your hand and pulling you through this. I can't stand not knowing if you're okay. 7 Years of A Broken Heart Pt.5

7 Years of A Broken Heart Pt.4"Knock knock, Mommy!" Sam called out to me from her place in the backseat. I was still shaken up from what happened earlier and wasn't really up to talking. However, as I guided the car down the roads and around the various twists and turns, I decided to entertain my daughter.  "Who's there?"  "Banana!"  "Banana who?"  "Knock knock!"  I sighed deeply, knowing what was coming. I knew I shouldn't let myself get like this, I knew that someday, I'd have to tell Sam about Connor. Everytime I thought of him, though...who we were, I didn't want much of anything anymore. 7 Years of A Broken Heart Pt.3It was about ten o clock at night when I got your phonecall. I hadn't heard from you in almost three days, and when you called, I could tell you were upset.  "Emily, I need to see you."  The urgency in your voice scared me, and I knew that something bad had happened. Your breathing was shallow on the other end of the line, and I could tell you had been crying. I couldn't help but let all these terrible, even if they were impossible, scenarios enter my mind.  
 
What if you didn't love me anymore?   
My hands were shaking and I'm sure my voice was too when I agreed to come see you. After hanging up my phone, I got 7 Years of A Broken Heart Pt.3
